SAFEST SUPPORT FOR SELF FEEDING

Frequently Asked Questions

  • For what age the tableware should be used?

The Skandino’s tableware is designed for children aged 4-48 months, but our design has been found to be benefical for adults and elderly people, too!

Once your child has learned to drink from the cup, the lid can be left out and the cup can be used for years to come.

  • Are the products durable and long-lasting?

Yes, Si and Absolutely! The child can throw Skandino tablewares across the floor without worry – they won’t break. The life cycle of tablewares is at least as long as that of traditional plastic products.

All Skandino products have passed the official EU physical and mechanical properties of children’s drinking equipment and children’s cutlery and feeding utensils (EN 14350 & EN 14372) in an accredited laboratory.

  • Can I wash the Skandino's tableware in the dishwasher?

Yes you can! All Skandino’s products are dishwasher safe.

  • Can I use the tableware in the microwave?

Yes you can! All Skandino’s products are microwave safe.

Skandino dishwares must not be used in the microwave without food to be heated. The material contains natural fibers and therefore the products may deform slightly after use of the microwave without content. For this reason, we do not recommend the use of the microwave when the dish is empty.

  • What material are the products made of?

All products are made from ecological biocomposite using 98% natural raw materials: simply pinewood and sugar cane!

Read more about the material here.

  • Is the material safe for children?

Absolutely yes! We’ve invested in a lot of research beyond our legal liabilities to make sure the products are 100% safe to use. The material has been carefully tested many times and it does not contain any harmful chemicals. The material is FREE of BPA, PVC, Phatalate and Melamin. It is 100% safe for children use.

  • Can I cooperate with Skandino?

Yes, absolutely! To read more about the Skandino Partnership Program and apply, head here.

  • When a child can start drinking from a cup?

The child can start practising drinking from a cup at the same time as he starts tasting solid foods. A good time to start drinking from a cup is when the child is able to sit firmly. (The source in below.)

  • What kind of drink is good to have in a child's cup?

In the early stages of learning the drinking liquid may be, for example, a fluid smoothie. The thicker the liquid is, the easier it is to handle in the mouth and it is included in the swallowing pattern. (The source in below.)
  • Does using a cup cause a lot of mess?

There may be a bit of a mess in the beginning, but with consistent training, your child will learn to control a cup in just a few weeks. (The source in below.)

  • How to remove the lid of the cup?

Take the edge of the lid with your index finger and thumb and pull the lid straight up. The cup has no threads so that it can be used as a regular drinking cup after the child has first learned to control the liquid and drink independently with the training lid.

  • Why is the lid of the cup so tight?

The cup and lid are made of bio-based material that contains wood. Wood is an organic ingredient, because of which the tightness of the lid and cup can live a little. The lid loosens with use. Thanks to the wood used in the material, you can carefully sand the lid and cup with sandpaper if you feel that the lid is too tight.

  • Why do tablewares smell like wood?

The tablewares smell of wood, because their material is made of sugarcane and softwood, which is collected from the side streams of pulp production. After a few washes, the smell of wood disappears completely from the products.

  • Why there is a yellow liquid on the surface of the dishes after washing?

In the first washes, residues from the wood and the manufacturing process may come off the product. This will disappear after a few washing cycles. The tablewares are food contact products and therefore we recommend washing the products before the first use.

  • Does tablewares get colored?

Like other non-ceramic dishes, Skandinos may take a little color from strongly coloring foods, such as tomato sauce, especially if the food is heated in the microwave. However, the stains fade with each wash and may disappear from view completely.

  • How should the products be disposed of?

You can recycle tablewares by sending them back to us, so we can mold them into new products. You can also burn the products for thermal energy or recycle them with energy waste. You can also give or sell them on to new tiny users. Alternatively, you can extend the life of the tablewares by inventing new uses for them – share your ideas on social media and tag us (@skandino) in the post, we will share your ideas with others!

  • What new uses for tablewares have others come up with?

Some customers have used the plate as a pet’s food bowl or serving dish for sauces. Some customers have sawed off and sanded off one of the cup’s handles and use the mug as their own coffee cup. In some families, the spoon has continued life as a sugar bowl spoon, with dolls or as a keepsake.

  • How and when was Skandino found?

The story of Skandino begins in 2014, when the world of baby products was heavily focused around using plastic as a material. No other materials seemed to be available. This is how the idea of green baby products was born.

The industry turned out to have more to fix than just the materials. Many speech language pathologists worldwide began to criticize traditional sippy cups because of oral-motor problems caused by them. This was another issue that Skandino wanted to address.
